Jean Smith, photographer to the Lambies

We had the pleasure of working with Jean Smith of Jean Smith Photography in February in Grosse Pointe, MI. Ann Marie called around Grosse Pointe to find some places to shoot and everyone she spoke to was very gracious in allowing us to shoot there. About Jean, in addition to couples photography, Jean also specializes in baby portraiture, that's how we knew she'd be right to capture Michael's true essence. We'll save you from the Ann Geddes style photos of Michael dressed up like bumble bees, pea pods and other common farm fare. Jean has a good energy level and an intense immunity to the cold weather, impressive for someone who grew up in the desert. You'd have thought we grew up in the desert the way we reacted to the cold. Jean made the drive out to meetup with us at our first location, The Chocolate Bar .

At the chocolate bar we started off with some coffee and sweets, which were delicious! We got into the shoot, they allowed us behind the counter, and Michael even got to mix up some malts. Jean worked her magic on us, and got the critical shots. We liked yelling"JEAN!" the best to get into the intensity of the moment.

After the Chocolate Bar, we headed over to the Hunt Club of Grosse Pointe for some outdoor action shots. Some people have asked us if we grew up grooming horses for the Queen, smithing horse shoes or spending days betting at the tracks. Well, the answer is not really. Ann Marie rode horses a little in her childhood. And Ann Marie and Michael both rode horses in Mexico once, but that's about as far is it goes. We are horse adjacent more than anything, but we thought the facility was gorgeous and horses might be cool for props. A young stable hand named Lily came out into the cold to help operate the horse, Lucy, which we got to pick in the stable. Overall it was fun, even though we got muddy and were freezing.

After the Hunt Club, we ventured over to Da Edoardo's Italian Restaurant. They started us with a pair of glasses of wine, and gave us our own private room for our shoot. We had access to some cool booths, a bar, a fireplace. They definitely accommodated us and made us feel at home.  Afterwards we sat and ate at the restaurant. It was quite great, even for an Italian boy like Michael. Definitely recommended.
